Guidance
Welcome to TCE Counselor Corner!
Tri-Central Elementary School's Counseling program is a comprehensive guidance and counseling program. The program is organized and implemented by a school counselor, Taylor Louie. The role of the School Counselor at TCE is to help all students in three interrelated areas: academic achievement, social emotional development and career development. Additionally, the School Counselor collaborates with educators, staff, parents/guardians and community partners to maximize students' academic success and overall well-being.
Academic Achievement
Develop attitudes, knowledge and skills necessary for effective learning (time management, organization, study skills)
Apply critical-thinking skills to make informed decisions
Identify short and long-term goals related to areas of interest and long-term college and career plans
College and Career Readiness (CCR)
The IDOE describes College and Career Readiness as having the knowledge, skills and abilities to succeed in postsecondary education and future career opportunities.
Even with our youngest learners, we begin the process of creating career awareness and exploration and learning about employability skills.
Social Emotional Development
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships and make responsible decisions.
Social and emotional development provides a foundation for learning and enhances students' ability to succeed in school, careers and life. https://casel.org/parent-resources/
At TCE, we utilize the Second Step program for Social and Emotional Learning in each classroom. Find out more about the Second Step program at https://www.secondstep.org/ or at https://www.cfchildren.org/.
