Newscast Teams

Tri-Central Elementary started our 4th and 5th grade Newscast Teams in the fall of 2012. Each semester, students apply for these jobs. The applicants are then recommended by their teachers, staff and administrators for their leadership skills, examples of good role-models and teamwork abilities. Four 4th and four 5th graders are chosen each semester to produce our morning announcements and any other productions needed in the elementary.

When we first began, our teams came to school early to record the morning announcements with a flip camera. Over the years, we have improved the process from hanging a green sheet to painting one of our walls green in the production room. We also now use an ipad equipped with a microphone. Our students give up recess time to film, write scripts, edit their production and prepare any productions necessary for the next day. They learn time-management, teamwork, responsibility, and public-speaking, as well as, many technology skills: editing with our DoInk app, green screen tech and casting their production to the server.
