Tipton Community School Corporation and Tri-Central Community Schools are working together to promote school safety. Safety week is designed to highlight each district’s ongoing commitment to safety best practices on and off campus. Our students on every level will learn how to stay safe, contribute to the district’s safety culture, and how to seek help when needed.
Each day there will be a focus area highlighted, practiced, and reinforced through targeted activities, drills, and interactive discussions. Our goal is to raise awareness about various aspects of school safety, inform and educate, and empower students, teachers, parents, and community to take proactive measures to ensure a safer and healthier teaching and learning environment at TCCS and TCSC.
Much of what our districts do naturally revolves around safety and its impact on student achievement and outcome. Each school corporation’s comprehensive safety and security safety plans remain a fluid and detailed blueprint in our efforts to ensure our students are safe, our schools are safer, and ultimately help our community to be a safer place to live, work and play.
We continually work to redefine and enhance our county-wide safety protocols, systems of support, and collaboration with our community partners. We are always looking to the latest safety initiatives, input from families and the community, tools, best practices, intervention, prevention, education, training, and new technological advances to improve safety and security in our schools.
However, one of our most powerful weapons we have for improving and maintaining a safe school environment isn’t a piece of technology nor does it cost any money; it’s working together as families, friends, neighbors, and community to watch out for each other and report unsafe conditions or concerning behaviors.
We encourage you to follow both TCCS and TCSC via their social media channels for highlights and to check for materials your child may bring home related to this week’s activities. Take this opportunity to have important safety discussions with your children to reinforce what they have learned and keep the conversation going on how they can help do their part to ensure their school is a safe and secure place to learn, grow, and play.
We always welcome your thoughts, comments and suggestions on this or any other topic that impacts the education, health and well-being of our students and staff. As always, if you see something. Say something. NOTE: Not all safety drills will be pre-announced.
Due to Tipton and Tri-Central not being on the same school calendar, TCCS has completed safety week all this week. Thursday students completed a fire drill and evacuation of the building. Friday, TCCS students will be completing a severe weather drill and will shelter in a safe location. The building will be temporarily "closed" during this drill beginning at 2:00 PM.
